Snowboarding Zone - South Lake Tahoe, California:
Riders Guide - Heavenly Ski Resort gets 360 awesome inches per year, and has 30 lifts including 9 high speeds, 91 trails, and a longest run of almost (gasp!) 30,000 feet. The runs are rated 20% for Beginner, 45% Intermediate and 35% Advanced. Kirkwood gets an amazing 500 inches per year, and has 12 lifts including two high speed quads, 65 trails, and a longest run of almost 18,000 feet. The runs are rated 15% for Beginner, 50% Intermediate, 20% Advanced and a fantastic 15% Expert. Sierra at Tahoe gets a staggering 560 inches per year which has to be one of the deepest packs in the lower 48. Sierra has 12 lifts including 3 high speed quads, 46 trails, and a longest run of 13,200 feet. The runs are rated 25% for Beginner, 50% Intermediate and 25% Advanced.
Parks and Pipes - Terrain Park at Heavenly features a snowboard-cross course, 3 terrain parks complete with table tops, spines, rainbow, step and rail slides as well as a 300-foot long super pipe and 13 feet walls. Kirkwood Terrain Parks and SuperPark has hits, jumps, tables, spines, and handrails. Snowbomb Terrain Garden has Mellow Jumps, Rollers and Banked Turns. Snowbomb Super Park is the biggest and most technical freestyle terrain in the area. The Sierra at Tahoe Terrain Park and Pipe also feature all the standard goodies, plus rails, jibs, tables and boxes..
Out of Bounds - Gamble. Drink. Go catch a show. However, there is lots more to great casino resort towns and South Lake Tahoe is a great example. Heavenly's Adventure Peak Snow Park at the top of the two and a half mile gondola offers snow tubing, snow biking, sledding and snowshoeing. The South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena is open every afternoon. Lake Tahoe Balloons will take you above it all and Lake Tahoe Adventures will show you the sights by snowmobile. Check out Camp Richardson for old-fashioned sleigh rides through meadows.
Hangout & Hookup - You've got to be kidding. You're just a lift away from Lake Tahoe's casinos and resorts. It's a mini Las Vegas just waiting for you 24 hours a day for fun! Just head to the lakeside to the Montbleu, Lakeside Inn, Harvey's or Harrah's Resort and you'll enjoy some of the most phenomenal casino resorts in America. Under 21s will love the "Grease" era shows and singalongs at Smokey Joe's Cafe. The more mature crowd will be dazzled by slot machines, blackjack, roulette and craps tables.
The Deal - The Reno Tahoe International Airport is located about 60 miles northeast of South Lake Tahoe and offers more than 100 flights daily, with non-stop departures to 23 cities served by 10 national airlines. If you want to fly directly into Tahoe try Lakeshore Pacific, Bigfoot Air or Lake Tahoe Air Taxi. If you want to fly into Reno then rent a car from any of the major agencies there, you take Hwy 395 South through Carson City then Hwy 50 West to South Lake Tahoe. If you're coming from the Sacramento area take Highway 50 East through Placerville and over Echo Summit to South Lake Tahoe.
