Ski North Lake Tahoe

Skiers and snowboarders who have been there know that North Lake Tahoe it all! There are four fantastic downhill ski resorts right there in North Lake Tahoe: Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Northstar-At-Tahoe, and Diamond Peak, as well as three more downhill resorts in nearby South Lake Tahoe – and that's not even mentioning Truckee and Reno! Located at the northwest of beautiful blue Lake Tahoe, this outstanding vacation destination gains more than just great views from the lake. Lake Tahoe's waters remain a consistent temperature, the lake itself keeping the immediate area at very comfortable temperatures. On an average, it's 37 to 40 degrees during the winter months (December, January and February). That's some mighty find temperature to be outside playing in some of the best snow around! It's the norm to find people enjoying this postcard-perfect alpine playground in shorts and t-shirts while they tuck it down a run or practice aerials!

Squaw Valley was heralded as the #1 terrain park, (with South Lake Tahoe's Sierra coming in closely behind it) for snowboarding. While there are ample runs for beginning and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, expert skiers and snowboarders are gonna be flat-out stoked! There's more diversity, more choices, in North Lake Tahoe than most anywhere else around! With all that warm weather, how's the snow, though? Lake Tahoe enjoys an average of 225 inches (just under 20 feet) of snow a year, with the recorded extreme at 884 inches (over 70 feet!) No worries, then, just good times! There's another factor: something rare about the way snow forms at Lake Tahoe that makes it highly reflective, causes the sun's rays to be four times the intensity of the brightest of sea-level days. In short, you may be feeling near triple digits in the sun, while you fly over the slopes on a blanket of fresh, pristine powder!

If you're new to skiing, or haven't been in a long while, there's nothing to worry about there either. California's ski patrol and ski and snowboard instructors are second to none! Certified and competent, they'll ensure everyone's safe while enjoying that skiing and snowboarding vacation. With all the developments and improvements in how skiing is taught, you'll find yourself gliding down the slopes in no time!

In all, there are seven ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area. That means LOTS of options, many different kinds of partying, and many food and recreation choices! The live music scene is thriving, with everything from local bar's house bands to top name acts at the casinos. Dance clubs, pubs, restaurants and specialty shops – literally everything you can imagine is there for nightlife as well as alternatives to downhill activities. If you like gambling, the casinos are nearby… but you'll find more fun than you can handle right there in North Lake Tahoe proper!

Some of your party may want to take in some of the other awesome activities in the area. There are helicopter tours, and excursions to the artists' community in Truckee are a rare treat… or treat yourself to a relaxing, restorative day at the spa. With so many choices, so many ways to spend your vacation, one vacation (or even two or three) may not be enough to take it all in!

Lake Tahoe temperatures and wind conditions can vary widely – but almost always within the realm of comfortable. You're not likely to find the biting, bitter winter cold experienced in so many other alpine destinations. When you pack, you'll want to be prepared for winter and spring. Light layers are the rule for Lake Tahoe. You may start the day off wearing a lot, but by the end of the day you'll have taken off some of those layers, tucked them away in a day pack or tied them around your waist.

As awesome as the skiing is in North Lake Tahoe, you might still want to tear yourself away to check out Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra, or Reno , Nevada's casinos. It's ALL good; There are no times but good times in North Lake Tahoe!
