Ski Pocono
The Poconos feature some of America's most classic and oldest resorts where skiers from all over the North East and Mid Atlantic States can enjoy the 50 inches of great Pennsylvania snow. The choice of resort in the Poconos is incredibly wide and you can find a resort that best suits your preferences and will keep the kids entertained to boot. And what a choice! Alpine Mountain, Montage Mountain, Shawnee Mountain, Blue Mountain, Camelback, Elk Mountain, Jack Frost and Big Boulder will all be able to satisfy anyone's requirements for fantastic Eastern skiing. Camelback has a fantastic learning area at Laurel Glade Park and has set aside Rhododendron Glen exclusively for experts only. Blue Mountain features great runs like Paradise and Razor's Edge which will keep the whole family entertained.
There's no Terrain Park at Alpine Mountain but lots of exciting natural features on the slopes. Camelback has a great halfpipe on Oak Grove and terrain park with a blastin' sound system which is accessed by its own chairlift. Camelback also has a second, smaller Terrain Park. Blue Mountain has two excellent Terrain Parks where artificial enthusiasts will be able to find lots of challenging features on the first's run of 1,200 feet and the second's incredible 3,500 foot length. Shawnee Mountain features its new Incubator Terrain Park as the latest addition to it's famous 3,000 foot Bushkill Super Park. The Incubator is located on the Country Club Slope and is set up for the beginner and novice skier who wants to tackle rails, boxes and snow features suitable for their skill level before they graduate to the much more advanced features to be found in the huge Bushkill Park. When you want the ultimate in Terrain Park variety you won't find a resort with more Terrain Parks than Jack Frost and its sister resort Big Boulder, which have invested in five separate Terrain Parks to suit everyone from the tiniest child to the most advanced hot dog. Each resort offers a fine selection of courses and training for all ages and discipline levels.
There is some absolutely amazing food and fun for everyone in the whole family at the Wayside Colony in Canadensis. The place is something to be seen, so make sure you take your camera to catch photos of the kids goofing around the Old West features. You even get special discounts for showing your valid Alpine Mountain lift ticket. The best breakfasts in Stroudsburg can be found at Mollie's and Compton's Pancake House, while the best place for Sunday Brunch is definitely the Stroudsmoor Country Inn and Resort. The area has an amazing selection of great family restaurants, including the Frog Town Inn, Apple Valley Restaurant, Sugar Mountain Pizza Grille, Tannersville Inn, Irv's Hideaway Inn, Pangea Restaurant, Marita's Cantina, The Deerhead Inn, Alaska Pete's, Bear Creek Inn, Bailey's Steakhouse, and for the best and biggest salad bar in the Poconos, head to JR's Grille.
The Must Do in the Poconos is to go see the place that sparked the first development of the area way back in the early 1900s, the amazing Bushkill Falls, although the kids will much rather want to spend the day at Costa's Family Fun Amusement Park.
