Ski Winter Park
The Frasier Valley ski scene is a bit different than some within Colorado. As the ad for Sol Vista Basin puts it, they're fueled by hot cocoa, rather than adrenalin. That warm feeling and laid back attitude seems to pervade the entire valley. That's not to say it can't get intense. Winter Park's Mary Jane, Parsenn Bowl and Vasquez Cirque are certainly proof of that! But it's a personal best sort of thing, more than some social competition. After all, such challenges are still between you and the mountain. The people are still friendly, unpretentious, and the vistas are majestic and exquisite. Getting there is even easy! One of the very closest ski resorts from Denver, just take I-70 to Highway 40. Situated south and a smidgin west of Rocky Mountain National Park, it's easy to fly in to Denver and be on the slopes later that same day!
Development of these awesome ski mountains has been outstanding. The natural resources have been well protected, but you can ski the whole mountain at Winter Park, for example. No level of skier has been left out, from the most green beginner through the world-class professional! Lifts have been designed to make it fun and easy to get around, and the quality of the snow is exactly what people have come to expect of the Colorado Rocky Mountains - Pleasing powder, plenty of bumps, jumps and vertical spaces! The development at Sol Vista has happened in a unique fashion. The two separate, connected mountains, have two different types of terrain and skill levels. East Mountain is for Beginners and their progression to Intermediate skiers. West Mountain is for Intermediate skiers and their progression to Advanced abilities. Sol Vista provides a separate learner's area as well, a display of their commitment to the safety and enjoyment of all their guests. The ski patrol and instructors are all paid professionals. Colorado's exceptional ski environment draws the best pros, so you'll be in good hands the whole time.
Apres-ski and nightlife are also laid back; While singles can (and do) enjoy the area, it's a more wholesome, family-type place. They're at least as proud of their lemon-aid as they are of their Margaritas. That doesn't mean you won't find dancing and pubs, just that, like the rest of the attitude in the valley, it's a bit more laid back and casual, less pretentious and expectant. You can just be yourself, feel at-home.
Skiing in Colorado is a lot of fun – all the more so when a few basics are kept in mind. This is a winter destination, and skiing is a physical activity. Light layers of clothing are important, and you'll need a breathable, waterproof outer shell, a powder coat or jacket. A hat that covers your ears is essential, but you may find comfort in a ski mask and neck and ankle gators as well, especially further up on the mountain or if you're going all out in deep powder.
The locals know the feeling. The Frasier Valley is a very special place, stands out even amongst all of the great resorts in Colorado. Perhaps that's because, in some ways, it feels like Home. Close to Denver, awesome snow and great ski trails, AND a warm down-home vibe? What more could anyone ask for? Ski Frasier Valley. Find out for yourself what the warmth and fire and magic are all about!
